I Was Caught Unaware

Caught Unaware

as a newborn baby

fresh as whitest snow

I paid no mind

to keeping time

or which way I should go

drift in, drift out

around, about

while I explored and played

something was hiding

and quietly chiding

as I let life have its way

imagine my surprise then

when I turned around to see

that while I was busy playing

time had caught up with me

so many somedays and soons

have quickly came and went

Oh, Time! Time! How sneaky, Time!
