Fate is Fickle and Life is Short

Fate is Fickle

I KNOW it’s trite, but it’s true…life is short.  To quote one Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”  On a cosmic scale we are less than mayflies, our life span equal to far, far less than a day.  We aren’t even a blip on the radar.  We’re more like a cosmic subliminal message, our stories condensed into a cue mark on a movie reel.  (I’m a ray of sunshine, aren’t I?  Yeah…sorry.)

Fate is Fickle

LIFE IS SHORT AND FATE IS FICKLE.

I’M NOT TRYING to be a drag or make anyone feel like life is pointless.  Quite the contrary.  Look at the amazing differences we make in the world with our brief little cue marks.  We create life-saving machines.  We explore space.  SPACE!  That’s crazy!  We teach.  We learn.  We make the best chocolate chip cookies that help someone through a bad day.  We give the best hugs.  We make art.  We share love.  We create new lives.  We celebrate lost lives.  We imagine.  We create.  In our own unique and glorious ways, we create.  How amazing is that?  And we do all that, ALL THAT in the length of a cue mark.

SO WHAT’S MY POINT?

LIFE CAN CHANGE…FAST.  Crazy fast.  So fast it’s scary.  We are lifted up.  We are dropped down.  One hand giveth.  One hand taketh away.  Fate is fickle.  What are those Depeche Mode lyrics?  “I think that God’s got a sick sense of humor and when I die I expect to find Him laughing.”  Yup.  Fate is fickle.  Enjoy the beautiful moments as they happen because they don’t last forever.  Fact.

BE AMAZED at the little things.  Be in awe of the small miracles, the small pleasures.  Relish.  Rollick.  Rejoice.  And when fate inevitably stops you in your tracks, sucks the air out of your lungs and leaves you for dead, let wonder, simplicity and love resuscitate you.  And then start the ride all over again.
