Patriotism Means Blowing Things Up

Patriotism Means Blowing Things Up

I love the Fourth of July.  Not only because it’s a celebration of my nation’s birth (sure we have our problems – what country doesn’t (except maybe Canada…or maybe they do and they’re just smart enough not to air their dirty laundry) – but all in all it’s a damn fine place to live and I’m more than happy to celebrate it) but I also love any holiday that involves huge, brightly colored, sparkly explosives.

Get me around fireworks and I turn into a 5 year old, all giggly and non-stop smiles.  The way you can feel the tickly boom in your stomach and how simply beautiful they are as they twinkle and dance like giant fiery flowers blooming in the night sky – I freakin’ love ‘em.

For those of you who missed this the first time I shared it oh so many years ago and are in need of some last minute party decorations, I’m reposting my free Fourth of July “Stars & Stripes Forever Banner” for you to download, print, cut out and string up.  It’s perfect décor for a snack table, porch railing or to hang from a mantelpiece (because as much as it sucks, sometimes bad weather strikes during outdoor celebrations).

And you see how it looks like it’s covered in glitter?  It’s not.  That’s just part of my magical powers, making things look glittery.  If you want to punch it up a notch you could totally add your own glitter to them, but since we are working with a time crunch here, I did the hard part for you – all the glittery glam without all the mess and time-munching hassle.

I hope you have an amazing Fourth of July.  May we all take a moment to pay respect to the people on both sides who lost their lives and may we pause to appreciate (and then celebrate) our freedom.  Sometimes I think we forget just how good we have it here.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

AND BE PLEASE CAREFUL.  LET’S KEEP ALL OUR FINGERS AND HANDS IN TACT, SHALL WE?
