Yup. You heard me. Every Star Wars fan who is bitching about Disney’s recent purchase of the Star Wars franchise, stop complaining. Now before you go getting in a huff let me qualify this by saying:
-
I am a Star Wars fan in a really big way
-
I was one of the aforementioned bitching Star Wars fans
I understand your outrage. I was more shocked & confused than a bantha who finds itself magically stranded on Hoth. I get it. I’m pretty sure the thoughts that went through my head also went through yours:
“Oh, for f***s sake. Seriously? And I thought it couldn’t get any worse than Jar Jar Binks.”
“Great. I can’t wait to see how much worse the franchise can get.”
“Way to kill my childhood memories, George.”
The original trilogy was perfection. The cast was amazing. The story was amazing. The special effects were amazing. They. Were. Perfect. Who among us hasn’t tried using the Jedi mind trick to try and get our way? Yeah. That’s what I thought. It was true love.
Then Lucas announced the prequels. As good fans do, we all lost our shit in anticipation of the films. Our favorite film franchise would live again with new characters and a new story. We were elated. And then the films came out. Our disappointment was so great it caused a disturbance in the force. They sucked. They didn’t just suck a little. Oh no. They sucked a lot. They were the suckiest sucks in all of Sucktown. The cast (with a miniscule number of exceptions) sucked. The story sucked (actually with a different cast it might have been ok). We felt betrayed by Lucas and the horrendous crap he created.
And now Lucas has sold it all to Disney…
And while many of you feel that this was George’s final betrayal, I think it may be the best thing to ever happen to the Star Wars franchise. I think Disney can breath new life into it and win the trust of the fans. Don’t think Disney can hack it? Allow me to direct your attention to The Avengers. Exactly. Just because it’s Disney doesn’t mean it’s going to be all powder puff princesses and that they’ll ignore the fan base that made the movies so successful. Disney knows how to make people happy. Their brand thrives on it!
Still not sold?
Then look at it this way: they certainly can’t screw it up any worse than Lucas already did.
Give Disney a chance. They may just surprise you.
