COME ONE COME ALL!
STEP RIGHT UP, ladies and gents. You are all hereby formally invited to attend the opening reception for my exhibit, .transmutations. on Thursday, June 5th, at Fayetteville Underground from 5-9pm.
As you all know I’ve been through some pretty major (to put it mildly) life events over the past year – death; divorce; dreams; loss; love – it has had its shares of ups and downs and downs and sideways and backwards and loop-the-loops. All of these extremes of circumstances got that hamster on the wheel (aka my brain) spinning and what that hamster focused on change.
.transmutations. is and examination & observation of change.
Change is inescapable. Change is unavoidable. Change is unstoppable. And as our lives change, we change…sometimes for better; sometimes for worse; sometimes suddenly; sometimes gradually over the course of years. We exist as one thing for a time and then we become another and that which we were ceases to exist. We become something new. My new series is a study of such changes.
Here’s what the official press release has to say on the matter:
May 17, 2014, For Immediate Release – Fay, AR:
Fayetteville Underground Presents Alli Woods Frederick: .transmutations.
Alli Woods Frederick: .transmutations. is the artist’s new photographic series that explores the nature of change.
Alli Woods Frederick is a photographer and crafter based in Fort Smith. Employing the use of muted tones, textures, and light and shadow play, the artist’s photography conjures the ghosts of forgotten memories and narratives in her dark, magical-realist images. Woods Frederick brings forth the bits and pieces of our personal moments of love, pain, and loss to weave us together through the human experience.

I hope that those of you who are within driving distance will be able to make it out. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to share this series. It’s the most intimate work I’ve done to date (which naturally makes me all the more nervous to share it…hello, vulnerability!) so I would love to see some familiar (as well as some new) smiling faces there Thursday night. The more the merrier.
If you can’t make it, rest assured I’ll fill you in on the details. *wink* And remember, the exhibit runs the entire month of June, so if you can’t make it on the 5th you can stop by some other time and check it (along with a ton of other amazing art by amazing artists) out.
Thank you all for your support, love and encouragement. You have all helped me, and continue to help me, more than you know. I hope I’ll make you all proud come Thursday.
Excited Kisses & Chaos,
Alli Woods Frederick
PS – After the reception I hope you’ll all head over to Stolen Glass to catch the fabulous Randall Shreve’s solo set (he’s playing sans The Sideshow). He goes on at 9:30 and if you’ve never seen him perform, you are in for a treat. Since I know you’ll thank me if you go, I offer you a preemptive “You’re most welcome.” *grin*
