IF Brian Taylor is the calm amidst the chaos, if Dennis Starr is the drive behind the innovations, then Christa Stephens is most definitely the humor of JKK Security.  She’s cute, spunky and never fails to make everyone crack a smile.  But don’t let her goofy jokes and fun-loving nature fool you. 

CHRISTA STEPHENS HAS CHUTZPAH.

She has aspirations of doing more at JJK than answering phones and she goes after it…and gets it.  Okay, well, cold calling, not so much, but process serving, stakeouts, even posing as the world-wise safety instructing Nippy The Chihuahua, she is always willing to take on new challenges and she does a fabulous job with all of them…especially warning kids about the dangers of kites (pronounced k-eye-ts) covered with razor blades.

Thank you so much Christa, Dennis and Brian for hanging out at Kisses & Chaos this week.  I mean it when I say you are all always welcome here anytime you like…as long as you promise not to make me eat anyone’s leg in a survival scenario (I’m looking at you, Captain Starr) and Irwin leaves his poop stick at home.

HOW, as a fan of his show Small Town Security, would I describe Captain Dennis Starr?  While it’s challenging to try and summarize such a complex individual I will do my best to describe the man I see every Tuesday night on my TV screen:

Outspoken but reserved; open-minded; non-conformist; brave; compassionate; creative; determined; loyal.  But above all things, he is completely and totally, unabashedly himself.

The Incomparable Captain Dennis Starr .

I’m inclined to say we need more Dennis Starrs in this world, but I’m not sure the world could handle it.  This self-described “misfit” makes no apologies for who he is.  He lives his life the way he wants, on his own terms – never asking the world for permission or approval…and that’s a wonderful thing.

THREE things make today so insanely freakin’ awesome that I can hardly contain my excitement and those three things are:

1)  It’s my birthday!  Woot!  (Thanks, Mom! I wouldn’t be here without you!)
2)  This is the FIRST EVER video edition of The Same 7 and
3)  Today is the beginning of the Small Town Security Take Over!

That’s right, ladies and gents.  The cast of Small Town Security is taking over Kisses & Chaos for the next three days and we’re kicking off this very special Same 7 event with my fellow geek*, Brian Taylor.

*for those of you who are new to Kisses & Chaos, the term geek is a badge of honor here and not one that is just handed out all willy nilly.  It must be earned.

Brian is the office manager (as well as the primary investigator, process-server, unofficial office dietician and, more often than not, the voice of reason) at JJK Security.  I could recount various tales and tidbits from the series, but instead I’m going to do something complete uncharacteristic:  I’m going to shut up and let you get right to the good stuff so you can learn all about Brian Taylor & bigfoot’s battle with body odor.  You are so gonna love this.  And I’m shutting up riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight…NOW!

Thank you, Brian, for your incredibly thoughtful responses…and for the nightmares I am now having about the pending economic collapse (which is so much harder to prepare for than a zombie apocalypse).  Maybe it’s time to learn some Jedi mind tricks: 

Me:  “This is not the house you want to loot and pillage.”
Interloping, thieving jackass:  ”This is not the house we want to loot and pillage.”
Me:  “You should go.”
Interloping, thieving jackass:  “We should go.”

Seriously, Brian, that’s the best defensive strategy I have for that scenario, so I really hope you’re wrong because otherwise I’m screwed.  But thanks again for stopping by. (Is it me or does that come across as sarcastic?  I’m honestly being sincere.  Hand to god.  Thanks for stopping by.)

SMALL Town Security (on AMC) is, hands down, one of the most brilliant, unexpectedly thoughtful and strangely addictive shows on television.  (In case you have no idea what I’m talking about you can get the complete details in my totally fangirl-y Small Town Security post, That’s A Speecy Spicy Meatball.)  It is not what one would expect from a show about a small security company (JJK Security) and its employees in Ringgold, Georgia.

Small Town Security is honest, compelling, hilarious and heartwarming; the cast is sincere, open, uncensored (well…emotionally anyway…verbally that’s another matter entirely) and genuine; the crew is compassionate, creates a sense of intimacy that is unparalleled in the genre, clever and the production value is outstanding – and those are all things you will never hear me say in regards to reality television, because reality TV is anything but. 

SMALL TOWN SECURITY IS THE GOLDEN NEEDLE IN THE ROTTING, SENSATIONALISTIC AND CONTRIVED HAYSTACK THAT IS REALITY TELEVISION.

SMALL TOWN SECURITY IS AS REAL AS IT GETS…

…and it will draw you in whether you like it or not.  Sure it has its haters but those individuals are missing the point (and the poignancy) of this show and the inherent beauty of the people whose lives it shares with us every week.

So what’s the big announcement and what does this show have to do with it?

Small Town Security is taking over Kisses & Chaos!

In a three part series, a few of the stars of Small Town Security will be doing our first ever video version of The Same 7!  Brian Taylor, private investigator and office manager of JJK Security (pictured above) was kind enough to conduct the interviews on my behalf (HUGE thanks to you, Brian.  I literally couldn’t have done this without you) and I couldn’t be more excited. 

This Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we’re getting Random & Weird with christa, Dennis & Brian.

It’s my birthday present to myself and my un-birthday present to you.  I hope you enjoy their interviews as much as I do and that if you aren’t already a fan of the show this will encourage you to snuggle up with your Netflix and spend an evening with the guys at JJK.  The first episode is full of some seriously massive surprises and it only begins to scratch the surface.  If you aren’t hooked then keep watching.  You will be.

Thank you Christa Stephens, Dennis Starr, & Brian Taylor for coming out to play and thank you, AMC for indulging my silliness and helping to make this play date happen.  This is the best birthday present ever!
