The Only Moment That Matters

SO IT may not be the only moment that matters.  I think there are a few moments that rank a little higher…but this is right up there and definitely in the top five.  But if it said “…one of the moments that matter…” I think it would lose just a wee bit of its impact.

Regardless, this is still an excellent and one hundred percent valid point.  It’s something I struggle with, but I keep trying.  Today I’ll let this serve as my reminder…and maybe it’s your reminder too.

long time no see

I’VE READ at least a dozen times from different professional bloggers to never ever apologize for deviating from your normal posting schedule.   “Proper” form is to always stay true to your editorial calendar – post when you’re “supposed” to post and if you, for whatever reason, fail to adhere to your schedule and don’t post for a little while, never ever apologize.  It’s “unprofessional.”

Since this makes zero sense to me and since I am a big believer in manners and respect I hereby offer my apologies for not being around the past three-ish weeks.  I’m sorry for disappearing.  I had to prepare for my first solo exhibit ( .transmutations.  –  more details coming soon) which opened the first week of June and ran into some snags along the way (I’ve recently transitioned from open edition photographic prints to limited edition signed and numbered giclees which meant using a new lab…which meant a hiccup or two as the kinks were worked out).  Preparing for the show wound up taking far more of my time than I had anticipated.  I also had a wedding to shoot and photos to edit (again, more details coming soon).

In short:  I’ve been busy.

LONG TIME NO SEE

long time no see

But life is moving back to its normal pace once again, so I’ll be around more frequently…and I have a few AWESOME surprises lined up for you starting next week. *insert mischievous grin here*  I’ll give you a little hint:  it involves AMC and The Same 7 and that’s the only hint you get.  If you want to place your virtual bets for bragging rights and I-told-you-so’s you can leave your official guess about the surprise in the comments section at the end of the post. *more mischievous grins here*

But enough of my babbling (even though that’s essentially all a blog is…).  I now give you my month late edition of Project 52:

18/52

THEME: MOODY

TITLE: “RITES OF PASSAGE NO1” + “RITES OF PASSAGE NO2”

long time no see

long time no see

19/52

THEME: FACES

TITLE: “UNTITLED”

long time no see

I realize I’m still a couple of weeks behind sharing my Project 52 images,

…but I don’t want to slam you with an endless stream of pictures and the inevitable babbling that comes with them, so I’ll save the rest for later and hope to be caught up by the end of June at the latest (although I make no promises for the week of the 25th…it’s my birthday so I may be a tad distracted).

Thank you all for your understanding and patience (if I had a dollar for every time I said that to you guys, I’d literally be able to buy the world a Coke…boy did I just date myself…).  I’ve missed you guys. *hugs*

Very Late Kisses & Genuine Chaos,

I have to be a bit of a hard ass about it.  I don’t mind if you quote me (and include credit/links back for the quote) but please ask before you use my images…as a professional artist it’s important to me to make sure that my work is affiliated with sites & people whose purpose/causes/mission/etc that both I and my business are in harmony with…if that makes sense.  So please respect my copyright and intellectual property by keeping your karma clean and asking first.  I know 99.9% of you guys are good and honest, but every now and then a bad apple makes it necessary to post this little reminder that I will open a can of cold and menacing legal whoop ass on people who steal and plagiarize. *insert that badass Samuel L Jackson scene from Pulp Fiction here*  Thank oodles, guys.  ::

Where We Begin

ENDINGS.  They’re seldom fun.  More often than not they truly, truly, deeply, profoundly suck some serious ass in a really big way.

It’s hard and scary to let go of pasts, of people, of dreams, of futures that will never be, of timelines full of possibilities now dead before even being born.  Endings suck.

THE UPSIDE?

Beginnings can be awesome.  Beautiful.  Profound.  Full of promise.  Full of life.  Full of new futures waiting to be birthed and the possibilities are truly endless.

It’s a balance.  It’s a sacrifice.  It’s a journey.  It’s a process.  And here is a beautiful iteration of those facts.

Where We Begin…

come one come all

COME ONE COME ALL!

STEP RIGHT UP, ladies and gents.  You are all hereby formally invited to attend the opening reception for my exhibit,  .transmutations.  on Thursday, June 5th, at Fayetteville Underground from 5-9pm.

As you all know I’ve been through some pretty major (to put it mildly) life events over the past year – death; divorce; dreams; loss; love – it has had its shares of ups and downs and downs and sideways and backwards and loop-the-loops.  All of these extremes of circumstances got that hamster on the wheel (aka my brain) spinning and what that hamster focused on change.

.transmutations. is and examination & observation of change.

Change is inescapable.  Change is unavoidable.  Change is unstoppable.  And as our lives change, we change…sometimes for better; sometimes for worse; sometimes suddenly; sometimes gradually over the course of years.  We exist as one thing for a time and then we become another and that which we were ceases to exist.  We become something new.  My new series is a study of such changes.

Here’s what the official press release has to say on the matter:

come one come all

May 17, 2014, For Immediate Release – Fay, AR:

Fayetteville Underground Presents Alli Woods Frederick:   .transmutations.

Alli Woods Frederick:  .transmutations.  is the artist’s new photographic series that explores the nature of change.

Alli Woods Frederick is a photographer and crafter based in Fort Smith. Employing the use of muted tones, textures, and light and shadow play, the artist’s photography conjures the ghosts of forgotten memories and narratives in her dark, magical-realist images. Woods Frederick brings forth the bits and pieces of our personal moments of love, pain, and loss to weave us together through the human experience.

Event Details
Title: June First Thursday at the Fayetteville Underground
What: Public art reception featuring Hannah Chalew: Nature of the City, Alli Woods Frederick: .transmutations., and work by Elijah John Mathis
Where: The Fayetteville Underground Art Gallery located on the southwest corner of the Fayetteville square at 101 W. Mountain.
When: Thursday, June 5, 2014. 5:00-9pm.

I hope that those of you who are within driving distance will be able to make it out.  I’m so excited to have the opportunity to share this series.  It’s the most intimate work I’ve done to date (which naturally makes me all the more nervous to share it…hello, vulnerability!) so I would love to see some familiar (as well as some new) smiling faces there Thursday night.  The more the merrier.

If you can’t make it, rest assured I’ll fill you in on the details. *wink*  And remember, the exhibit runs the entire month of June, so if you can’t make it on the 5th you can stop by some other time and check it (along with a ton of other amazing art by amazing artists) out.

Thank you all for your support, love and encouragement.  You have all helped me, and continue to help me, more than you know.  I hope I’ll make you all proud come Thursday.

Excited Kisses & Chaos,
Alli Woods Frederick

PS – After the reception I hope you’ll all head over to Stolen Glass to catch the fabulous Randall Shreve’s solo set (he’s playing sans The Sideshow).  He goes on at 9:30 and if you’ve never seen him perform, you are in for a treat.  Since I know you’ll thank me if you go, I offer you a preemptive “You’re most welcome.” *grin*
