a Hair Miracle

There are two things I think we all know about me by now:

1)  I am not easily impressed with products and their claims and
2)  My hair is one of my greatest blessings and one of my greatest frustrations.

a Hair Miracle

(ME WITH MY COPPER LOCKS AND UNIQUE FASHION SENSE – AGE THREE)

I love my locks.  I’ve been known for them since I popped out of the womb. “…You mean that girl with the gorgeous red curly hair?”  Yup.  That’s me.  And when you’re known for your hair it naturally becomes something in which you take pride.  You take care of it and give it lovin’ (yes, even when it was every color of the rainbow I still gave it lovin’).

My naturally course and curly hair (and I mean big ol’ fat corckscrew curls) which I love has always limited my choice of hairstyles…especially as a redhead it can be easy to cross over into clown territory if the haircut isn’t just right.

NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THAT.  TRUST ME.

a Hair Miracle

(MY HAIR LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE MYRTLE FROM AMERICAN HORROR STORY COVEN IN 5TH GRADE AFTER ONE TRAGIC HAIRCUT.  NOT AN EASY LOOK FOR A 10 YEAR OLD TO PULL OFF.)

Many years ago I decided that, even though I could never straighten my hair and have it look pretty, smooth and soft (like naturally straight locks look) I loved a stacked bob, so a stacked bob I shall have and I would just wear it in all it’s glorious curly grandeur.  And wear it I did.

AND I LOVED IT.

I still love my beloved bob (as is evidenced by the fact that I have continuously rocked a bob for almost ten straight years now – let’s face it, it’s timeless and never goes out of style.  EVER.  It is the pencil skirt of hairstyles).  Over the years I have learned to wear it both curly and straight and make do with products that controlled my straightened hair (to a degree), but left it feeling dry and with no swing or body.

BUT NO MORE.

a Hair Miracle

The lovely people at Dove sent me their latest line, the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil collection, and I. Am. In. Love.

I confess I was skeptical when I read the claims. (5 x’s silkier hair after one use?  I had to see it to believe it.)  Even with my course hair most conditioners leave my hair greasy and limp so I was naturally skeptical about one made with oils.  So the first thing I did was to try the conditioner and oil as lotion. Yes, lotion.

If it’s as light as it claimed then it should soak right in.  So I rubbed each one into a hand and (gasp!) they both melted into my skin. They weren’t sticky, thick or greasy.  I wasn’t coated with silicone.  The blend of African Macadamia oil and Coconut oil melted into my skin.  Melted.  So I jumped right in the shower and lathered up my noggin’.

IT’S A HAIR MIRACLE.

angels-singing-copy

The Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Collection is like angels in a bottle…delicious angels sent to make my literal crowning glory, my beloved ginger locks, soft and silky whether I wear it curly or straight.  And it does it all while being completely weightless.  Color me impressed.

(AND REMEMBER THAT LACK OF MOVEMENT I COMPLAINED ABOUT?  YEAH.  WELL YOU’LL NEVER HEAR ME COMPLAING ABOUT IT AGAIN.)

Did I mention it smells divine?  Divine.  The aroma is subtle and delicious.  I catch myself sniffing my hair throughout the day (which is challenging with a bob).  I’m pretty sure I look insane…as though that’s anything new. *wink*

I AM NOW A FAN FOR LIFE.

a Hair Miracle

My hair is healthy, happy and feels like spun silk…and isn’t that we all want?  No woman wakes up and prays for a hair care line that makes their hair feel like a cross between straw and steel wool.

Thank you, Dove, for transforming my hair. (For the record, and not to toot my own horn, I’m now receiving even more compliments on my lovely locks. Hand to God.)  After years of frustration, you’ve made me fall in love with my hair all over again.

THINK I’M EXAGGERATING?

(because another thing we know is that I’m prone to fits of hyperbole…)  I challenge you to take the “Dove Silky Hair Dare.”

MISS ANGIE OF MY SO-CALLED CHAOS

IN case you haven’t met the fabulous Miss Angie from Kisses & Chaos’ newest sponsor, My So-Called Chaos, then please allow me the pleasure.  She is a powerhouse of awesomeness which is on display at her adorable blog, the aforementioned My So-Called Chaos.  A woman after my own heart, not only did she do a complete all-things-pumpkin post (we all know I’m a total pumpkin junkie) but she also sent me a photo of her with Xander from Buffy The Vampire Slayer (jealous! *swoon*).  How do you not love her?

So, needless to say, I am pleased as punch to feature her in this edition of…

MISS ANGIE OF MY SO-CALLED CHAOS

WITH MISS ANGIE OF MY SO-CALLED CHAOS

MISS ANGIE OF MY SO-CALLED CHAOS

1.  In 10 words or less, tell us what makes you so freakin’ awesome.  And don’t be modest.  Let ‘er rip.

“1 cup love, 3 tbsp funny, dash of crazy.  Mix.”

2.  Did you (or do you currently) have an imaginary friend(s)?  If so, please tell us about him/her/it/them.

“I can’t honestly remember having imaginary friends, unless you count the characters in the books I read.  As an avid reader growing up, I’d finish a story and physically ache for the characters that I was no longer involved with.  I’d lay awake in bed at night and imagine their stories continuing, and that I was with them for their following adventures.”

3.  Do you believe in ghosts?

“I totally believe in ghosts.  When I was 7 years old I woke up and saw my grandmother (who was very much alive) standing over my bed, but after a minute and some blinking back the sleep from my eyes I realized it wasn’t her.  A while later I found photos and found it was my grandmother’s grandmother who’d died before I was born (and who’s bedroom I was currently sleeping in.)  It wasn’t just a quick look either, she stayed with me until I closed my eyes and went back to sleep.  I remember it feeling very real, and being very comforted.”

4.  What one thing scares the every-loving crap out of you more than anything else in the whole wide world?

“Corpses.  They seriously wig me out… It’s not death or dying that I’m afraid of, but the empty shell that’s left behind after.  I’d better be cremated when I die, or I may just come back and haunt the people who let me be a corpse! Ha!”

5.  Sunrise, sunset, new moor or full moon?

“Full moon all the way.  I LOVE when it’s dark and the air is just crisp enough to give you a chill-but it’s still warm enough for you to stand barefoot in front of a large moon as it rises on the horizon.  Gorgeous.”

6.  If you had to live the rest of your life inside one book or movie what would it be and why?

“I’m going to be girly and totally admit to it being Outlander.  I mean I love Neil Gaiman novels most-but I’m not so sure I’d want to be living in some of those worlds like London Below.  But Outlander?  Please take me back in time to a hot Scotsman.  Kilts.  Just saying…”

MISS ANGIE OF MY SO-CALLED CHAOS

7.  It’s the zombie apocalypse.  The person you love more than anyone, anywhere, ever has been bitten by one of the walking dead.  It is inevitable that they will turn into a flesh-eating monster.  What do you do?

“Well, when I noticed them starting to die I’d do the right thing and shoot them in the head.  My friends and I have made this pact on the off chance that it ever becomes a reality.

Here’s a little space that’s all yours.  Do with it what you will.  Draw a picture, tell us about a current project, pet peeve, new product, write a haiku about unicorns, recount your recent bigfoot sighting…you get the idea.  It’s all yours.  Go crazy.”

“Hi readers of Kisses and Chaos!  I hope you enjoyed this little interview, I have to say it was one of the most fun for me to answer!  For background on some of this, I’m a single twenty-something blogger living in Salt Lake City, Utah.  I blog over at My So-Called Chaos in addition to maintaining a couple of other blogs, working full time, going to school nearly full time, and life.  I’m currently majoring in English (Hey, I’m sure there are things I can do with it…) and have a passion for writing and learning French!  (Je l’aime!)  In my free time (which is few and far between) I like to create art (draw/paint/etc.), volunteer with a local animal rescue, be out in nature, read, marathon something on Netflix, or spend time with people I dig.  I also love wine, and have the habit of buying WAY too much nail polish even though my nails are only painted about 30% of the time.”

Thanks for stopping by and sharing with us, Miss Angie.  You are seriously cute as a button and I’m pleased as punch to have you as a member of the Kisses & Chaos family.

To all my beloveds here in the blogosphere, if you haven’t stopped by My So-Called Chaos yet, I fully encourage you to swing by and give her some Kisses & Chaos style lovin’…I highly recommend her Top 20 Halloween Movies list (in case you need some new ideas after burning through your Netflix queue this month and are tired of all the Friday the 13th and Halloween marathons permeating every cable channel.)  How could you not like a list that includes Earnest Scared Stupid.  (I told you she was awesome.)

Thanks again, Miss Angie!  You are the bee’s knees, my dear. (And for the record, I still consider characters in books to be friends, so I totally get it. One of these afternoons we’ll have to sit down and exchange reading lists so my friends can meet your friends. *wink*)

Until next time!

Because I Could Not Stop For Death

Because I Could Not Stop For Death

Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – ’tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
Were toward Eternity –

Still Alive And Kicking

Holy guacamole, have things been crazy here.  But they’ve been good/fun crazy which is a welcome change of pace from the oogy chaos crazy of the past few months.  I know I’ve been scarce as of late but I’m…

STILL ALIVE AND KICKING

Still Alive And Kicking

I’ve been busy bebopping around some of my favorite parts of the South having fun, visiting old friends and making a few new (and awesome) ones and am finally home, which is both a relief and a heartbreak (isn’t that always the way with traveling).

We have a TON of catching up to do and I have oddles and oodles of photos to share (like you couldn’t see that one coming from a million miles away…I know, I know).  This is basically just a quick little check in to let you know I’m still alive, that all is well in the land of Kisses & Chaos and that we will return to our regularly scheduled program super-duper incredibly soon (Saturday-ish is what I’m shooting for).

In the meantime here are a few videos to keep you entertained complete with zombies and Viking funerals (though not both at the same time…disappointing, I know…):

1)  Bad Lip Reading – The Walking (And Talking) Dead

*THE WALKING (AND TALKING) DEAD PART I VIDEO*

*THE WALKING (AND TALKING) DEAD PART II VIDEO*

2) Are Viking funerals legal?

(Something I’ve often joked about with some of my crusty punk friends, involving a plastic kiddie pool filled with Everclear and flaming Nerf arrows) – courtesy of Order Of The Good Death.

*ARE VIKING FUNERALS LEGAL? VIDEO*

Tons of photos and tales from the open road coming soon, my dear hearts.  Until next time!

The Mystery Of The Disappearing Pictures

A strange thing has been occurring here.  Pictures are disappearing from Kisses & Chaos.  So are posts.  At least I think they’re disappearing.  I can’t be one hundred percent sure.  I feel fairly confident that I posted them…I’m damn near certain…but because of the upheaval that went on with Mischa’s health and various others bits and bobs, I can’t be certain that I did, in fact, post them.

My host migrated all my stuff onto new servers in late summer and since then things seem to be slightly awry here.  It is just as likely that some posts were gobbled up and eaten by the goblins that live in the ether of the interweb during the migration as it is that I completely spaced them and merely imagined posting them.

Regardless of this, that, and the other thing I’m re-posting (or possibly not) the ones I know to be gone (or imagined) as I come across them, so if you’re experiencing a bit of déjà vu there’s a reason why – either you have seen the post before or you imagined it right along with me…and if that’s the case then how f’ing cool is that?  That’s awesome!

Okay.  Wait.  What am I thinking about right now? …*thinking*…  Holy crap!  You’re right!  That’s exactly what I was thinking about!  That’s crazy!  We need to hang out more.  *insert Twilight Zone theme here*

The Mystery Of The Disappearing Pictures

More on the mystery of the disappearing pictures (or not) posts to follow (maybe possibly).  We shall see how things progress (or regress, as the case may be).  Here’s to slowly losing my mind (this should be exciting and fun!  My own site is trying to gaslight me!  Woohoo)!
