Here are my top 10 movies for Halloween…the “best ever” claim might be pushing it, but what can I say…I’m biased!  So here’s  a mix of family friendly and not-so-family friendly fiendishly fantastic films.

1)  The Frighteners (John Astin as a ghost and Michael J Fox as a medium…creepy hilarity insues.)

2)  Dead Alive (rat monkeys. zombie babies. kung fu fighting priests. custard.  How could you go wrong?  Pure genius by Peter Jackson.)

3)  Evil Dead II:  Dead By Dawn (Bruce Campbell?  Yes please!)

4)  Beetlejuice (the world’s leading bio-exorcist)

5)  Nightmare on Elm Street (the original, of course.)

6)  28 Days Later (Could the scene in the church be any creepier?  It makes me squirm every time I see it.)

7) Hocus Pocus (It’s worth it for the Garry & Penny Marshall cameos.)

8)  The Addams Family (Cara Mia!)

9) Any and All George Romero zombie films…he is the king of the living dead.

10) Arsenic & Old Lace (more of a dark comedy but it most certainly has a Halloween-y vibe to it…nothing like a couple of well meaning homicidal aunts!)

+1 TO GROW ON:

11) The Shining (quit possibly the all time creepiest…to this day I cannot watch it alone)

Just a quick hello before my 8-5 work day begins.  Good morning my daring darlings!  I hope you are having a super-awesome-uber-fantastic morning!  At the risk of being trite, I know Mondays can be a bit of a bear for some us, so let’s kick the week off a little positivity, shall we?  For those of you who aren’t familiar with affirmations, what they are or how to use them I strongly recommend reading to Louise L Hay’s “You Can Heal Your Life” and its accompanying workbook “Love Yourself, Heal Your Life.”  I know some of what she says might sound like a bunch of hooey.  I thought the same thing, but then I tried using some of the affirmations and little by little I noticed things in my life beginning to change for the better.  They work.  They certainly won’t hurt and they just might help, so what do you have to lose?  With that I wish you a happy Monday, my darlings and offer you the following affirmation:

Good morning my dears,

To those of you who have migrated here from the old blog: It’s wonderful to see you again! I have missed you so! To those of you that are visiting for the first time: Welcome!

Please allow me to introduce myself to the newcomers. My name is Alli Woods Frederick. I am a fine art/freelance photographer, artist and writer. I have an amazing husband and we share our home with Mischa, the raddest cat in the cosmos. I am a fickle creature with ever changing tastes. My current obsessions are: Victorian momento mori, lace, england (yes, I’m quite the anglophile), affirmations, violets, violets and more violets, Zoe Keating (an amazing cellist) and all things that go bump in the night.

My new website (AlliWoodsFrederick.com) is finally up and running.  If you feel so inclined, stop by and take a peak by clicking here! I’m currently hosting a Halloween give-away so boogie on over for a chance to win a fantastic surprise.

Why am I moving on from Down & Dirty Designs? I really want to create something new. It’s time to move on and let Down & Dirty Designs go the way of the dodo. While I have enjoyed it, I feel the need to move away from the limitations it has created for itself (and my creativity!) and branch out. Le Coeur Rouge is filling the void left by Down & Dirty. Le Coeur Rouge is much more expansive…photography, illustration, collage, prints, postcards, greeting cards…you get the idea. I also want to focus on my freelance career. This new blog will also be a departure from the old one. I will still be updating you all on my art, but I have tons of other yumminess planned.  I would provide you with more details, but good things come to those who wait. *wink wink* Basically, I just need to shake my life up a bit and what better way to do so than to make a fresh start. Down & Dirty Designs is staying open on etsy for the time being. Once Down & Dirty is no longer, I will still have a presence on etsy via Fizzy Pop Vintage, which is currently under construction.

To those of you who have supported Down & Dirty Designs, I thank you. You’ve been aces! I look forward to growing with you all as I set out on this new adventure! I’m uber-excited about my changing artistic vision and I’m thrilled to share it with you!
