Do you ever have the feeling you’re on the cusp of something amazing?  You know the one.  The one where your bones just know that something good is coming.  There’s an electricity in the air.  Every breath seems to pop and cause a spark.  Your entire being fills with that vivid and vague tingling of confused anticipation.  It’s delicious, thrilling and terrifying all at once.  That’s been my week in a nutshell.  I’ve been enveloped in that nondescript something-on-the-horizon-but-I-have-no-idea-what-it-is giddiness.  Of course, there’s also the very real possibility that I drank entirely too much caffeine this week.  Only time will tell.

Things I Love Thursday:
The Time Will Tell Edition

“Next Job” by Hans van Reenen

Spring and last minute cold snaps.  I don’t mind chilly weather and I’m just fine with sneaking some in at the proverbial buzzer.  My personal feelings on the matter of climate are:  You can always put more clothes on…but you can only take off so much without getting arrested.  *  Bumble bees.  Or any bee for that matter…well…not killer bees, just the cute, fuzzy, (usually) non-lethal variety.  I find them adorable and fascinating.  *  Exciting new opportunitiesin my life.  The details of which you will be privy to in about a month-ish.  I can’t let the cat out of the bag just yet.  *  Finally, really and truly realizing that nothing ventured really is nothing gained.  If you never try your failure rate will always be 100%.  You will never succeed if you don’t put yourself out there and give it a go.  It’s a fact and it took me entirely too long to really get it.  But better late than never.  *  These wedding photos by Dottie Photography (with whom I am now hopelessly in love) over at Rock N’ Roll Bride.  Drool-worthy awesomeness to be sure!  *  Entertaining the notion that what happened at Sodom and Gomorrah was actually a nuclear attack.  *  Truly limitless possibilities.  Nothing is truly impossible.  NOTHING.  That includes but is not limited to:  alternate dimensions and realities, the paranormal, cryptoids, alien abductions, lost civilizations, reincarnation, the toothy fairy, time travel, and finding a pair of skyscraper-esque heels that are unbearably cute AND 100% comfortable.  *   My honey, my cat and my family.  They are an endless supply of love and awesomeness…except when they drive me crazy…but even then they’re still full of love and absolutely fantastic. *

So what are you grateful for and completely smitten with this fine spring day?  Hmmm?  Do tell, do tell.

So I have decided to make a change.  I have decided that offering pre-printed Pocket Sized Positivity Cards is too limiting.  It limits how quickly you can use them.  It limits how you use them.  It limits how you share them.  This is not what I want.  I want you to be able to share them freely and use them to make you (and others) days a little brighter.

Sooooooo…

"pocket sized positivity cards"

It is with spreading love and positivity in mind that I have decided to offer Pocket Sized Positivity Cards as downloadable PDFs!  Starting on April 13, when you purchase a series of Pocket Sized Positivity Cards, you will have them delivered straight to your inbox so you can start printing and sharing as quickly as possible.  Not only will you now have an endless supply of cards, but you’ll also have them for only $6.  (Isn’t it amazing what eliminating the cost of shipping can do?!?)  You can still choose individual sets or buy a subscription for the entire set (42 cards in all)…it’s up to you.

So there you have it!
Hooray for positivity!
I’ll be posting all the new info and links on the 13th, so be sure to stay tuned!

I hope you are having a positively smashing day!

Indulge me for a moment, if you will, while I briefly recap last Friday’s On the Road:  From Dallas with Love.  I promise to keep it freakishly brief.  Here you go.

  1. Drove to Dallas
  2. Stayed at gorgeous and awesome hotel
  3. Spent time with JFK and Jackie.
  4. Beer and conversation
  5. Room service and bed jumping
  6. zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I know.  I know what you really want to talk about…the Lady Gaga show.  I’m getting to it, I promise, but first thing’s first.

Drat.  Foiled Again.

"photo of scyscraper in downtown dallas"We thought we would visit the natural history museum that morning, but, I kid you not, the wait to just buy a ticket was about an hour.  Thank you Texas Board of Education for scheduling spring break that week and unleashing the hordes of loud, screaming wee ones upon poor little unsuspecting us.  Natural history museum was out and the aquarium was in.  Well, at least we thought it was in, but when we got there it was the same story as the natural history museum; it was crawling with people and the line wrapped around and around and around the block.  We assumed the zoo would be more of the same so shopping at The Galleria won by default. ‘

Grin and Bear It…

"image of alli woods frederick with giant stuffed paddington bear at sax fifth avenue in dallas"

Honey was eager to check out Nordstrom so we started there.  What can I say, it was a mall just like any other mall…it was just a mall on steroids.  The highlight for me was Saks which had a gallery in it where I found a new artist (Robert Deyber) that I am absolutely over the moon for (his sense of humor is fantastic!)…AND my heart melted when I came across this Paddington Bear that my inner-child has decided it desperately needs.  It’s so cute I want to have a baby just to have an excuse to buy it.  Would that be wrong?

That was about it for the day.  We wrapped up our shopping, popped back to the hotel, had a bite and a pint and then it was time wash up and head out for the evening.

I Left My Head & My Heart on the Dance Floor

"getting dressed for Lady Gaga"After a quick wardrobe change we were ready to get our Gaga on and dance our butts off.  We were giddy and giggly.  We even had a dance-off while we waited for our ride to the concert with a golden haired three year old that I met earlier that evening in the elevator .

Lady Gaga on the marquee at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. As we walked up to the American Airlines Center you could feel the energy zipping and bouncing and flying all over the place.  The collective energy was just amazing!  Lady Gaga was plastered all over the marquee and all Mama Monster’s wee ones were eagerly waiting to get inside.

"Mini-monsters at Lady Gaga in Dallas, Texas"

I could go on and give you a blow by blow of the show, complete with the set list, costume descriptions and nice little review, but I think that would be missing the point of the concert.  Lady Gaga’s shows are not a passive experience.  You are a participant in a revolution of love, acceptance and positivity that’s all wrapped up with a fantastic beat, an amazing stage show and a mind-blowing aesthetic.  I have never witnessed a performer actively demonstrate gratitude and positivity on stage until I saw Lady Gaga perform.  I found myself being insanely envious of all the teenagers that have her as a roll model and wishing I had someone like her to admire when I was growing up.  It was truly uplifting and awesome in the truest sense of the word.

"images of us at the lady gaga concert"

The performance itself was INSANE!!!  Nothing I could say would even come close to doing it justice.  It’s what you would image all concerts will be like in 100 years.  It’s like stepping into the future.  Huge projection screens, giant monster fish, broken down cars, fountains of blood and flaming pianos…yeah…it was less of a show and more of an extravaganza.  We went. We cooed.  We sang. We danced. We laughed.  We had an amazing evening.  Oh yes, we did.  And I shall leave it there.

Does the rest of the trip really matter after this?  Not really.  Grocery shopping at HEB the next morning, though fun (Helloooooooo Chocolate Hobnobs!), could hardly compare to the phenomenal experiences of the night before.  But never let it be said that I don’t keep my promises.  I promised you a taste of the show, so a taste of the show you shall have.  Please forgive me for the sound quality.  We were so close and the speakers were so loud that I’m genuinely surprised my mic wasn’t destroyed while I was recording.  Enjoy my dears, and if you should have the chance to go see Lady G, go, dance and put your paws up!

Kisses & Chaos,

Your little monster:

My recent jaunt back to my home state of Texas has left me with a stampede of Lone Star pride and a hankerin’ for any and all things longhorn related.  So I’ve rustled up some of the best handmade odds and ends that Texas has to offer and I’m bringing them straight to you.  Enjoy, my dears.

On The Road:

Big D or Bust!

"Alli Woods Frederick and her husband driving to Dallas for the Lady Gaga Concert"

I found my honey’s Christmas present in July of 2010…tickets (on the floor, no less…score!) to Lady Gaga in Dallas on March 14.  It’s a damn good thing I rock at keeping secrets.  In case it isn’t glaringly obvious, this is precisely where I was a couple of weeks ago.  We were rockin’ and rollin’ in Dallas, dancing our butts off at the Lady Gaga show and soaking up all my beloved Texas had to offer.

I can’t even begin to tell you how it elates me to see the “Welcome to Texas” sign.  Every time I cross that state line I feel this sense of relief and joy…I feel like I’m home. (Can you tell I miss living there?  Maybe just a smidge, eh?)  I think it’s beginning to grow on The Honey as well.  Several times during our visit he asked: “Would you ever be interested in moving back here?”  I’m pretty sure he’s hooked on the lone star state…as well he should be.  But I digress…

The Magnolia Hotel

"Photograph of Interior Elevator Bank of Hotel Magnolia in Dallas"

We arrived in Dallas shortly after 1 and checked into the fabulous Magnolia Hotel.  There were several musicians in the lobby debating what type of pizza to get (“…but I like sun-dried tomatoes…”) and the dulcet tones of Siouxsie Sioux singing “Peepshow” came softly through the speakers.  The Magnolia was my kind of place.  The staff could not have been nicer, our room was spotless, and our view was amazing.  They also offered complimentary drinks every night as well as a bedtime cookie bar!  Nothing like some milk and cookies before turning in. (Note: I booked our room through Expedia and learned something interesting.  I called them instead of booking online and was able to finagle a lower rate than what was offered on the website.  Those ten minutes on the phone saved us a little cash.  Who knew?)

Spending Time with History

After we checked in, we went to our room, freshened up (am I the only one who feels extra grimy after a road trip?) and took a walk to Dealy Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum.  The Sixth Floor Museum is located, aptly enough, on the sixth floor of the infamous book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald fired the fatal shot that killed JFK.  I don’t think either of us were prepared for just how moving the experience was to be. I think it was the footage of the funeral that had the most impact on us.  The grace Jackie demonstrated was both awe-inspiring and heart breaking.  I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to remain so composed, the entire world watching as she buried her husband.  You would have to be inhuman to not be moved by the scene.

After a quick stroll around the grassy knoll and a short discussion of various conspiracy theories surrounding JFK’s assassination (did you know 8 out of 10 Americans believe there was a conspiracy?  Yes, I am one of them.  Not really surprised are you?) we headed back to our hotel to partake in some complimentary beer.  We enjoyed an interesting conversation with another hotel guest with topics ranging from rude dog walkers and Dan Rather to St. Francisville, Louisiana and the Church of England.  After a few pints we headed up to our room for some room service, relaxation and bed jumping (I couldn’t resist even though my mother taught me better…)!

"creepy photo of alli woods frederick jumping on a hotel bed."

Photo Honey took of me jumping on the bed…creepy, isn’t it?

Since Honey was fighting a butt-kicking cold (one which I was lucky enough to catch on the drive home.  Thank you immune system for staving it off until AFTER our trip!  I owe you one.) we decided to snuggle up, enjoy our amazing view and watch HGTV until we fell asleep.  And sleep we did.

But what about Lady Gaga?  You’ll get to hear all about “Going Goo-goo for Gaga” on Monday, so make sure you check back in…there might even be a few videos.  We shall see come Monday.

Kisses & Chaos,

Alli Woods Frederick
