HUH. So last night was the season premiere of the final season of Mad Men and…well…I gotta be honest…I wasn’t blown away. If it had aired last year, midseason, as it was originally intended when written and filmed (before they decided to split the final season in half creating two partial seasons of seven episodes each) I think it would have worked, but as a stand alone season premiere?
…especially the premiere of a final season. You expect more as a viewer. More power. More emotion.
Instead of being greeted with a new dawn (or Don for that matter) it was, disappointingly, more of the same. After the massive changes that occurred in last year’s season finale the agency, the characters and the viewer were primed for MAJOR change in the season seven premier but instead of change we got a bunch of rich assholes acting like spoiled entitled children who don’t like sharing their toys. No charm. No change.
HOW UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING.
Even though the opening song, Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is” lets us know precisely how we, along with the characters, will feel straight out of the gate, the flatness, the hollowness is something you expect to encounter later in a season, not as a farewell kickoff.
After a meeting with the boys’ club, Peggy and Joan had a powerful moment that revealed more than a few prejudices on Peggy’s part, prejudices held by some women within the feminist movement that actively undermine, insult and demean their fellow woman.
I didn’t laugh at Roger once (which is such a massive let down – he’s always been my favorite character, along with Sally). And Don? Oh, Don. He had so much opportunity for growth but instead of moving forward he regressed.
WHILE THERE WERE MOMENTS I ENJOYED, I FELT, OVERALL, DEFLATED…BUT THEN I SUPPOSE THAT WAS THE POINT.
This episode had no business being a season premiere. It left me wishing they had let the final season stand instead of splitting it in half and interrupting the flow…a flow where this episode would have made more emotional sense.
Hopefully this was merely a bump caused by the last minute season division and the rest of these final episodes won’t seem as disjointed and abrupt as the first and instead will have the emotional impact and resonance we have come to expect from Mad Men, but until next week I think I’ll sidle up to the diner counter along with my disappointment and…
Did you catch the premiere? What did you think? Am I alone in my disappointment or do you feel let down, too? Do tell, do tell.
ROUND and bright in the night sky, the full moon will be shining down on us with all her glory tonight. The full moon is renowned in certain spiritual circles for helping to bring all desires into fruition. In other words, it’s potent and badass in a good way. It’s the culmination of everything that’s been building during the waxing moon so it’s also a time to express gratitude for the changes in your life.
Well, crystals need occasional cleansing and recharging. Crystals store energy and emit precise frequencies (precisely why it’s used in watches). Since feelings, actions and thoughts are pure energy they can impact crystals, which then store the energy around them, thereby altering their frequencies and changing the way they function.
We’ve all met people that simply can’t wear watches. They constantly stop working. They aren’t buying crappy watches; these people simply attract and discharge a lot of energy which causes the quartz in the watch to crap out.
AS WITH ANY STORAGE DEVICE, CRYSTALS FILL UP AND NEED TO BE CLEARED OF THEIR ENERGETIC CLUTTER; HENCE THE CHARGING.
There are lots of different ways to charge crystals, but you can imbue your crystals with all of those lovely lunar properties by letting them bask in the light of the full moon. By charging your crystals under the full moon you not only clean out their energy and bring their frequencies back into alignment, you also amplify their inherent qualities.
DID I MENTION THERE’S ALSO A LUNAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT (AND THIS ONE’S SPECIAL)?
Tonight’s eclipse is the first of two total lunar eclipses of 2015 (the second occurring in September). For those of you in the US, it will be partially visible for people in the eastern and central portions of the country. If you’re out west then you can witness the entire eclipse from start to finish.
Why the discrepancy? Timing. It starts at 6:15am EST, 4:15am Pacific and will last approximately five minutes. If you’re fortunate enough to be hanging out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Japan, Hawaii, northeastern Russian, eastern Australia, or western Alaska then you’ll get to see her in all her spectacular glory.
And what makes this total lunar eclipse so spectacular? Tonight’s eclipse will be a blood moon, which means it will glow a beautiful dark orange-y red. So your full moon yumminess not only gets an extra kick of eclipse energy, but it’s pretty too.
A total lunar eclipse is like going through all the moon phases in one fell swoop – from full to waning to new to waxing and then back to full. It also involves the alignment of the sun, moon and earth and all that entails.
LUNAR ECLIPSES ARE POWERFUL CATALYSTS FOR CHANGE BUT THEY CAN CREATE WOBBLY AND UNPREDICTABLE ENERGY.
You may notice people act a little off around the time of a lunar eclipse…they may seem more on edge or more indecisive than usual…you get the idea. For this reason many people prefer NOT to charge their crystals during a total lunar eclipse.
But don’t worry. If you decide to err on the side of caution and not risk the unpredictable influence of the eclipse, you can still reap the benefits of charging your crystals under a full moon? Just read on…I explain it all a little further down.
It’s insanely easy. Gather the crystals that you want to charge and, after the sun goes down, either place them on a windowsill or on a plate, mirror, tray, or whatever you have lying around and set them outside in the moonlight. That’s it. Just give them a moon bath and they’re charged.
You don’t have to leave them out all night if getting up at that ass crack of dawn and dragging your butt outside in the chilly morning air is your idea of hell. Leaving them out for a few hours is fine.
I often charge mine while I sit outside and do a full moon ritual (which usually involves burning things. I do love fire, after all. Not in a deviant way – I’m not a firebug…fire and I just get along well. We have a healthy respect for each other, unlike electricity, which is my nemesis and can suck it).
The only hitch? Think of lunar charged crystals as vampires – they need to get inside before they’re flooded by sunlight. The sun’s energy is completely different from the moon’s. So get them inside before the sun’s rays start peeping over the horizon.
TOO BUSY TO CHARGE YOUR CRYSTALS ON THE NIGHT OF THE FULL MOON? WANT TO AVOID THE UNCERTAINTY THAT A LUNAR ECLIPSE BRINGS BUT ARE IN DIRE NEED OF SPRING CLEANING YOUR STONES?
No worries. The three day rule we discussed in the Magic, Manifesting and the Moon mini-guide series holds true for crystals as well. You have a three day window to capitalize on the power of the full moon’s energy – you can charge them the night before, the night of, or the night after. There’s no need to rearrange your schedule to accommodate a crystal cleansing. (I, for one, will be waiting until after the eclipse to get my crystals clean, happy and overflowing with full moon goodness.)
With your crystals now charged you can use them as you normally would, be it for chakra work, meditation, crystal grids, around your house, on your altar or however you incorporate them into your life or work.

SIXTEEN years ago today my favorite little furball came into my life and changed it for the better. He’s had an exciting life – a 110 pound dog (who was all hair…oh, that Lakota) for a brother and partner in crime; growing up in a house overflowing with different critters every week with everything from baby tigers and leopards to baby pigs, possums and skunks. He even spent time with a dragon in a castle.
He’s been a house cat, a shop cat, a lost cat and a found cat. He’s hung out with rock stars and ghosts and always loves having a house full of people, whether they’re living or dead. He has never met a stranger in his life – every one he meets is a friend, animals included (though he openly admits young kids tend to be a bit too loud for his laid back but super social nature). He’s traveled, taken vacations and loves a good car ride (as soon as his motion sickness passes, which happens fairly quickly – messily, but quickly).
He is loving to a fault and is happiest when he’s snuggled up watching a movie (although he also adores Doctor Who and The Walking Dead – he’s never missed an episode. He’s a geek just like his mom) or grooming his newest sibling, Lavender, much to her chagrin.
He has helped me through deaths, cancer, the attempted taking of my life and too many migraines to count, just to name a few trials and tribulations. And he does it all without a single grumble, complaint or expecting anything in return. He just gives love. And I have helped him in turn and given him all the love in the world.
He is a light in this world; a blessing; a joy. He brings smiles, laughter and love with him wherever he goes.
He is my Mischa and today we celebrate him.
Here is to sixteen amazing, crazy and love-filled years, Mischa. And here is to many, many, many more years of the same to come. We have lots of adventures we’ve yet to live and I can’t wait to share them with you.
NEVER FORGET YOU ARE SPECIAL AND YOU ARE LOVED.
SPRING is finally here and it’s the last day of the month and we all know what that means. Well…we know what that means when I actually remember it’s the end of the month, which is, admittedly, hit or miss. It can’t be helped. I’m a magpie. I get distracted easily by shiny things. Why do you think Kisses & Chaos is all over the map. I mean ghosts, fashion, science, long rants, photography, trivia…yup…magpie.
Wait.
What was I saying? (see…)
Oh yeah! It’s time for a new edition of Postscript! So before I get distracted by another random tangent, let’s get down to it.
* Are you ready? Deep Fried Cadbury Cream Eggs. (Thanks, Kathleen for bringing this recipe to my attention, my mouth f’ing loves you…my soon to be expanding ass, however, feels differently.)
* While we’re on the subject of Cadbury, Hershey won a lawsuit which resulted in the banning of imported UK Cadbury chocolate of any kind. For those of you who have ever had English Cadbury then you understand my pain. This is a travesty. So if you come across any UK Cadbury grab it while you can. (And you can always feel free to send it to me if you find you’ve bought more than is necessary or practical…just sayin’.) Oh…and Screw Youuuuuuuuuuu, Hershey.
* I found this article about couples’ sleeping styles and what it means about their relationships interesting (although some were left out – like one of my ex’s who would only “allow” our feet to touch for a few minutes before he pulled away. And before you ask, yes he had some major issues. There’s a reason he’s an ex. *wink*).
* As though I really need another excuse to visit the UK, now there’s an interactive city wide zombie game called 2.8 Hours Later: Ruin that tours the country and the outbreak is about to begin. The first is April 11 in Birmingham. This is the most brilliant version of capture the flag EVER. I will be planning my next trip around this, to be sure. Brilliant.
* A Beautiful Mess has a wonderful tutorial on how to make your own bath bombs. Sorry, Lush. I love your bath bombs with a mad, flaming passion but I’d starve to death if I used them as often as I like. This is a fantastic solution. Long live DIY.
* ‘What If I Don’t Know What I Want’ from Gala Darling hits the nail on the head (this is precisely what I’ve been going through).
* A sewing e-course? I think I may need to do this. I haven’t sewn using a pattern since the purple octopus pillow I made in 7th grade home ec class and I could really use a refresher. (And yes, I still have the pillow)
* Sarah tells us how to create a champagne life on a lemonade budget and it’s easier than you think.
* I am flirting impaired. Not only do I suck at it, but I am oblivious when I am being flirted with…at least so I’ve been told because…you know…oblivious. Enter Veronica Varlow’s ‘Flirt Alert! How To Flirt – 3 Tips From A Burlesque Performer.’ Much of this seems a bit over the top to me, but then I suck at flirting, so what do I know. My idea of flirting is to blush furiously, stare at my feet, avoid eye contact and run away if my crush approaches. Look out ladies. I’ll steal your man (with the help of duct tape and chloroform because God knows it won’t be with my womanly charms *wink*). Ha!
What were your favorite odds and ends from around the interweb this month? Share them in the comments below. I’m always in need of new readings and new sites/blogs/etc, so please share with the rest of the class.
Here’s to April. May it be better than March. (Seriously, because my March was the suckiest suck in all of suck town.)
PS – Tomorrow is Mischa’s 16th birthday! So feel free to share your birthday wishes for him on Facebook or Instagram (use the hashtag #HappyBirthdayMischa). He could really use the extra love and attention (he loves love and attention) with his health being so touch and go and I promise I will make sure he not only sees each and every one, but writes a thank you note as well (we’re big on etiquette around here).
